James Horner has written score for Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven

July 22, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Last month we lost one of Hollywood’s most talented composers in James Horner, who died tragically in a plane crash. His legacy will live on forever, embedded in film history, but before his death Horner had one more score up his sleeve.

Director Antoine Fuqua, who is currently doing the promotional rounds for his boxing drama Southpaw, has revealed in an interview with NPR that Horner was going to score his remake of The Magnificent Seven, but more than that the composer had already written the music for the film.

Fuqua said to NPR: “I just found out a couple days ago his team flew out here to Baton Rouge, and they brought me all the music from Magnificent Seven – he had already wrote it for me based on the script….he did it all off the script because he wanted to surprise me. And I thought it was a gift or something. And they all came out here and they said, Antoine, James wrote the music for Magnificent Seven already, and it’s just glorious. And that’s my memory of James.”

The Magnificent Seven is being directed by Antoine Fuqua and features an all-star cast that includes Denzel Washington (The Equalizer), Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chris Pratt (Jurassic World), Ethan Hawke (Boyhood), Peter Sarsgaard (Garden State), Wagner Moura (Elite Squad), Haley Bennett (The Equalizer), Byung-hun Lee (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Luke Grimes (Fifty Shades of Grey), Matt Bomer (Magic Mike XXL) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil).

The Magnificent Seven is slated for release on September 23rd 2016.
