Kathryn Bigelow tops shortlist of directors for Tomb Raider reboot

September 17, 2015 by admin

Tomb Raider is heading back to the big screen, but Tricia Brock (Girls, The Walking Dead) will not be joining the ride having stepped aside from the director’s chair. Now Tracking Board are reporting that the shortlist for her replacement is now down to three names.

Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) is leading the charge on a list that also has Catherine Hardwick (Twilight) and Mimi Leder (Deep Impact). No word yet on what the plot of the Tomb Raider reboot will be about, but a script has been written by Evan Daugherty (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

Released in 2001, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was the highest grossing movie based on a video game at the time, until it was beaten by Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The film is well known for a very difficult production run and featured no less than eight different writers with eight different takes on the story. It was successful enough to spawn a sequel, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, which was released in 2003.
