Hugh Jackman to help cast the next Wolverine

March 8, 2017 by Samuel Brace

When the time finally comes, Hugh Jackman will be consulted to help cast his replacement as Wolverine.

No one wanted to see Hugh Jackman depart the role he became so famous for, and that is doubly true after the much lauded and applauded Logan impressed audiences with its release last week.

But Jackman’s days as the clawed mutant are apparently done, his service to the character for the past 17 years are enough in his eyes. Not many would argue with that.

So now talk is turning to what will happen next with the character, and how Fox will look to replace what has become a staple of the series. Well apparently, according to a recent interview with producer Simon Kinberg in Deadline, Jackman will play some part in picking his successor.

“We heaven’t even thought of the next iteration of Wolverine. For all of us, we were keeping our fingers crossed that the audiences would respond to Logan the way they have. I can’t visualize in my head another Wolverine but if that day ever comes, we would talk to Hugh about it.”

Whichever way they go with the character, whoever takes up the role will unquestionably have big boots to fill. As Kinberg suggests, it may be sometime before we see Wolverine up on the big screen again, and perhaps that is for the best considering the overwhelming pressure that would be placed on any new recruit.

Who would you like to see taking on the role of Wolverine, or should Fox let the character rest and shift the focus elsewhere? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
