Big Little Lies author working on second season

April 12, 2017 by Samuel Brace

The author of Big Little Lies has expressed her openness to a second season of the HBO limited series.

The show, adapted from the novel of the same name, has an all star cast including the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley.

Big Little Lies has been well received by critics and has recently wrapped up its seven episode run. The show tells the story of a murder in an upscale beach-side community, and presents to the audience the events that led up to the crime – not giving away the victim/murderer to the very end.

It has been thought that this would be a one and done, and director Jean-Marc Valle has recently ruled out the show returning. But now, thanks to comments from the book’s author, Liane Moriarty, there seems to be a chance that the series could continue.

Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Moriarty said: “I have started to think about ways this could continue,” she said. “The producers have asked me to see if I can come up with some ideas. I wouldn’t write a new book but perhaps a new story, and then we’ll see what happens.”

It seems HBO has no concrete plans as yet to continue Big Little Lies, but with the show going down well and improving on ratings as it progressed, one wouldn’t be surprised to see it return.
