Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson talks new planet Crait

April 16, 2017 by Robert Kojder

As most of you probably already know, Friday brought us the first teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and one of its most tantalizing aspects was the inclusion of a new planet to explore. Obviously, the franchise is known for galaxy exploration and beautiful locations, so the addition of a new world is most certainly welcome.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, director Rian Johnson revealed that the planet’s name is Crait and gave some background information on the locale, saying it’s a “mineral planet that is home to an old rebel base there that’s now abandoned [and] ends up playing a key role in the movie.”

Johnson adds that the Resistance fighters seen in the trailer taking on the First Order Walkers and “they have to deal with a very pressing and immediate threat.”

This confirms the recent rumours from Making Star Wars, who revealed that the planet will play host to a major battle between the Resistance and the First Order, and that the Resistance has been using the mine to gather gems in order to fund their forces.
