Ridley Scott now teases “one or two” Alien: Covenant sequels, says he approached Prometheus wrong

May 11, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Ridley Scott seems to be having trouble deciding, not if, but how many sequels he will be making to his new movie Alien: Covenant.

Having previously said there will “definitely” be four sequels, the director gave a pretty laid back answer to a question from Yahoo Movies about the future of the franchise. The director stated: “I don’t know. [I’ll make] maybe two more [films], or maybe one more, I don’t know.”

Also, when asked about Prometheus, and his personal feelings about the film and its mixed reaction, the director was surprisingly candid in his response:

“The fans, in a funny kind of way – they’re not the final word – but they are the reflection of your doubts about something, and then you realize ‘I was wrong’ or ‘I was right’. I think that’s where it comes in. I think you’re not sensible if you don’t actually take [the fans’ reaction] into account.”

Alien: Covenant is receiving a mixed reception from critics [read our review here], but fans will be able to make their own minds up when the film begins its rollout from tomorrow. Meanwhile, Scott has also said that production on the next sequel will get underway “within 14 months”.

Check our exclusive interviews with Alien: Covenant cast members Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride and Billy Crudup here (although beware, the latter two do contain spoilers)…

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant is set for release on May 12th in the UK and May 19th in the States. Prometheus stars Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Guy Pearce return alongside new cast additions Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice), Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Demian Bichir (A Better Life), Billy Crudup (Watchmen), Jussie Smollett (Empire), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Benjamin Rigby (That’s Not Me), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), Tess Haubrich (The Wolverine) and James Franco (Why Him?).
