T.I. to reprise role for Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp

May 24, 2017 by Justin Cook

Scott Lang’s misfit band of loveable criminals will be fully reunited in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, now that Blackfilm has confirmed that actor and rapper T.I. (otherwise known as Tip Harris) will be returning as Dave for the Ant-Man sequel.

The outlet spoke to T.I. at a New York event for the third season of NBC’s The Carmichael Show, where he nodded ‘yes’ when asked if he’d be involved in the sequel. Shooting on the project will reportedly start in less than two months at Atlanta’s Pinewood Studios; in 2014, Ant-Man became the first production to film at the location, and ever since, Marvel Studios has returned.

T.I.’s Ant-Man screen partners, Paul Rudd, Michael Peña and David Dastmalchian, are also set to reprise their roles as Lang, Luis and Kurt, respectively.

While opinions obviously differ, most would agree that Ant-Man is one of the funnier Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, not only because its main star (Rudd) is a comedic force to be reckoned with, but also because supporting cast members deliver solid comedic performances as well.

In particular, for the film, Peña, Dastmalchian and T.I. developed a nice rapport and improvised several hilarious scenes/lines – many of which made it into the final cut of the film. While Peña certainly stole the show among the group, having by far the most lines as the fast-talking and gung-ho Luis, Dastmalchian and T.I. gave less flashy but entirely commendable performances, and the three complimented each other nicely.

Despite being known by most as a rapper, T.I. has quite a bit of professional acting experience, getting his start in ATL, a film loosely based on his life, and appearing in American Gangster, Takers, Identity Thief, Get Hard and Sleepless since then.

Ant-Man and The Wasp also stars Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne) and Michael Douglas (Dr. Hank Pym) and is directed by Peyton Reed; Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari have penned the script. The film is set for release in the UK on June 29th, 2018, and in the US on July 6th, 2018.
