John Wick screenwriter returning for Chapter 3

June 4, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Originally published June 4, 2017. Updated April 16, 2018.

Although John Wick directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch are currently preoccupied with their work on Highlander and Deadpool 2 respectively, the duo are pressing ahead with their plans for John Wick: Chapter 3, with THR reporting that screenwriter Derek Kolstad has now signed on to pen the script.

Kolstad wrote the original John Wick on spec, and returned for this year’s sequel John Wick: Chapter 2. Both Leitch and Stahelski are working with Kolstad to develop the third movie, with Stahelski also potentially set to direct solo, as he did with Chapter 2.

Lionsgate is aiming to begin production on John Wick: Chapter 3 later in the year, with Keanu Reeves returning in the role of the titular hitman. As yet, there’s no word on a potential release date, but fans do have the upcoming John Wick comic book series to help tide them over.
