Back before Spider-Man was even announced as heading to the MCU with a brand new actor portraying the web-slinger (Tom Holland taking over for Andrew Garfield), Sony was at a crossroads of what to do with the property considering that The Amazing Spider-Man movies were both critical and commercial flops. One of their reported proposed ideas was an Aunt May solo feature based upon a comic book exploring her days as a spy.
Naturally, that idea was shelved with the superhero’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War and the announcement of Spider-Man: Homecoming, but with the casting of Marisa Tomei as a ridiculously attractive interpretation of Aunt May (she’s already flirting with Tony Stark), Sony is in a position where they theoretically could market such a film if they were interested in making it.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Tomei was asked about those rumors and replied “What? You guys know way more than I do. First of all, it took her forever to find out about Peter, so I don’t know what level of spy she would be, but I would like the idea of a big magnifying glass. Did they really, did you really hear that?”
The interviewer said “yes”, to which Tomei responded, “I’m all for it.”

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. New additions to the cast include Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Bokeem Woodbine, Tyne Daly, Michael Barbieri, Abraham Attah, Hannibal Buress, Kenneth Choi, Angourie Rice, Michael Chernus, Michael Mando, Logan Marshall-Green and Jennifer Connelly.
