Ben Affleck dismisses speculation over his Batman future

July 22, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday it was reported that Warner Bros. is considering Ben Affleck’s future as Batman in the DC Extended Universe, suggesting that he would be unlikely to don the cape and cowl for The Batman, and that the studio was either looking to recast Bruce Wayne, or have another character take on the mantle of the Dark Knight.

Well, appearing at Warner Bros.’ DC panel today, Ben Affleck has seemingly dismissed the speculation about his future as the Dark Knight: “Let me be very clear. I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest fucking part in any universe, DC, Marvel. It’s incredible and I am so thrilled to do it. I know there’s a misconception that because I didn’t direct it maybe I wasn’t enthusiastic about it… it’s fucking amazing… And Matt Reeves doing it, I would be a fucking ape on the ground for Matt Reeves, never mind being Batman. It’s incredible. So I’m really blown away and excited, and it’s a great time in the DC universe, you’re going to see some stuff from Justice League that we’re really proud of and I think you’ll see why I’m excited to be Batman.”

That being said, it doesn’t necessarily rule out the fact that Warner Bros. is considering where to take the Bruce Wayne character, such as moving him into a mentor role to a younger Dark Knight at some point in the future. Still, it looks like Affleck is 100% in for The Batman!

And speaking of The Batman, it has just officially been announced as part of the next slate of DC movies alongside Shazam, Suicide Squad 2, The Batman, Justice League Dark, Flash Point, Wonder Woman 2, Green Lantern Corps, and Batgirl.
