Lucy Liu to direct the opening episode of Luke Cage season 2

July 12, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Actress Lucy Liu is stepping behind the camera to direct the premiere of Luke Cage season 2.

With the upcoming release of Marvel’s The Defenders on August 18th, Netflix are already looking ahead to the next solo seasons of the heroes that make up the team.

Liu was spotted on the set of Luke Cage in Harlem back in June, causing speculation that she might be involved somehow.

Liu made her directorial debut with the 2011 short film Meena and has since directed four episodes of Elementary for CBS.

“What a thrill to collaborate with Marvel and Netflix, two industry titans, who paint our world with inspiring stories and beguiling characters,” said Liu in a statement. “It is such an honor to work with such a passionate and fearless team.”

Jeph Loeb, executive producer of Luke Cage, has also commented on the hiring of Liu.

“When you’re dealing with a bulletproof man, it helps if you have a bulletproof director,” he said. “Lucy brings a keen eye, a superb sense of story, and an obvious love of actors. She is rocking Luke Cage 2.”
