Fifth Game of Thrones spinoff officially in the works

September 21, 2017 by Samuel Brace

A fifth Game of Thrones spinoff is officially in the works at HBO.

We learned a number of months ago that numerous spinoffs from the hit fantasy series were in development, with only one likely to make it to production.

Speculation has of course been rife as to just where in the timeline these spinoffs will fit. Variety has now confirmed that a fifth project is officially being worked on and, like the others, it has its own writer assigned to it.

Bryan Cogman, who has worked on Game of Thrones since season one, is in charge of writing the proposed prequel show. Cogman has been with the show as both a writer and executive producer, being responsible for episodes such as season 7’s ‘Stormborn’.

Author of the novels George R.R. Martin has spoken of a potential fifth prequel in the past and commented on the writer that was being recruited, saying that apart from himself and experts Elio Garcia and Linda Antonsson: “I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does.”

The other writers that were been previously announced to be working on the spinoffs are Max Borenstein, Jane Goldman, Brian Helgeland, and Carly Wray.

No details regarding the plots of these potential shows have been announced.
