First look at Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody

September 5, 2017 by Gary Collinson

With the long-gestating Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody gearing up to begin production, Entertainment Weekly has unveiled the first image of Mr. Robot star Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury to mark what would have been the 71st birthday of the legendary Queen frontman; check it out here…

Speaking to the outlet, Malek revealed that the singing in the movie will be created using a nomination of Malek’s own voice, original recordings of Freddie Mercury, and a soundalike: “We’re going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible. I’m in Abbey Road [Studios] right now if that should say anything to you. I’m not working on my acting.”

Bohemian Rhapsody is set for release on December 25th 2018 in the States and December 28th 2018 in the UK and sees Bryan Singer (X-Men: Apocalypse) directing a cast that includes Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) as Freddie Mercury, Gwilym Lee (Jamestown) as Brian May, Ben Hardy (X-Men: Apocalypse) as Roger Taylor and Joe Mazzello (The Social Network) as John Deacon.
