THR is reporting that Angelina Jolie has signed on to lend her voice to The One and Only Ivan, Disney’s upcoming adaptation of author Katherine Applegate and illustrator Patricia Castelao’s Newbery Medal-winning book.
The live-action/animation hybrid is being directed by Thea Sharrock (Me Before You) from a script by Mike White and follows “silverback gorilla named Ivan who lives in a cage in a shopping mall along with an elephant named Stella and a stray dog called Bob. Ivan does not remember life before the mall, but when a baby elephant named Stella enters and Ivan finds himself taking care of her, he begins to rediscover his previous life and concocts a plan to take the baby elephant away from their abusive owner.”
Jolie is set to voice the character of Stella, as well as serving as a producer alongside Allison Shearmur (Cinderella, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).
In addition to The One and Only Ivan, Jolie is set to reunite with Disney for Maleficent 2 (which she believes “is going to be a really strong sequel), and continues to circle Universal Pictures’ Bride of Frankenstein, although that project was recently delayed indefinitely.
