Mia Wasikowska to star in Judy and Punch

October 30, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Crimson Peak) has signed on to star in Judy and Punch, the directorial debut of Australian actress and writer Mirrah Foulkes (Animal House), which is being produced by Vice Media and Blue Tongue Films.

A reimagining of the classic puppet show, Judy and Punch takes place in the fictional town of Seaside and follows two puppeteers – the vain but charismatic Punch and his resilient and talented wife Judy (Wasikowska) – who attempt to resurrect their show as a means of escaping their decrepit town.

“We have been tracking Mirrah Foulkes for a number of years and are impressed that for her first feature she has managed to blend dark and dirty deeds with great wit and humour, creating an atmospheric fantasy world brimming with intrigue,” said Sally Caplan of Screen Australia, which is financing the project with Vice.

Wasikowska was last seen in the Disney sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass and will next appear in the World War II thriller The Man with the Iron Heart, formerly titled HHhH.
