The first read-through for Game of Thrones season 8 left the cast in tears, says Sophie Turner

December 14, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Apparently, the scripts for the final season of Game of Thrones left the cast in a very emotional state. In an interview with EW, Sophie Turner — who was plugging the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix — inevitably talked about Game of Thrones, and the reaction that the cast had during the first read-through:

“We had the read-through a while ago and at the end of it, we were all on our feet, applauding and crying. We had everyone there, everyone who’s had any part in this. It was amazing. We closed the blinds and shut ourselves off from the rest of the world and had six hours in this room just reading it through and crying and laughing. We had our emotional bit and then we thought, ‘Well now we’ve got eight months. We’ve still got a while to get through!’”

It’s no surprise that the cast would be so emotional after reading the final scripts for a show that they have been involved with for the better part of a decade. In a way, it’s saying goodbye to a second family, and it will likely feel similar for the fans who have tuned in every week. Also, she’s not kidding about having a while: the eighth season of Game of Thrones is not scheduled to premiere until 2019. Now there’s a reason to burst into tears.
