The Flash Season 4 Episode 9 Review – ‘Don’t Run’

December 8, 2017 by Jessie Robertson

Jessie Robertson reviews the ninth episode of The Flash season 4…

Ah, the Thinker….we hardly knew ye…or do we still? As refreshing as it was to come into this season realizing our big bad was not going to be a speedster, and the idea that The Thinker, supposedly the most intelligent man in the world, was instead, seemed to make a lot of sense. I’m just not sure where I’m landing yet even after this on him.

First off, the thought that he and his wife can quickly change (and why?) into their super-villain outfits is too ridiculous for me to ever fully buy. So, this week, a string of events unfolds just as the Thinker has been wanting them to and we see it as the episode moves along. With both Barry and Caitlin out of the picture, the team struggles to find both of their whereabouts but in a weird scene, Harry scolds Iris about being team leader and not making a decision. We don’t have the manpower or resources to find them both at once. This of course, is perfect for DeVoe’s plan as Barry isn’t leaving anyways and as Caitlin finishes surgery on a new meta discovered by her former pal Amnuet, it all falls into place for DeVoe to now become a psychic and frame Barry Allen for his murder….I’m just going to let that sit there.

Katee Sackhoff is back as the metal manipulating Brit killer punk rocker and she’s just as enjoyable as the first time around. I loved, loved her walking around with Jitter’s newest drink, the Killer Frost, as she mocks Caitlin. Caitlin had a really interesting arc I wouldn’t have seen coming a season or two ago where when she becomes Frost, and the guys seem to enjoy hanging out with her bad self more in some ways. This, of course, isn’t true mostly and the episode spends a lot of time reassuring her during it that’s not the case, but none of it is over the top so it all works. I am truly impressed they found a great way to work both Caitlin and Frost into one and they both feel so separate and unique.

Ralph’s outfit screams “Do-Over” and let’s hope that’s coming. We leave with Barry being discovered by the police in the midst of an apparent murder so I guess like father, like son?

Other Notes:
– When going through their wedding gifts, turns out Rory gave them 40 toasters…that he stole. I can’t believe how much I enjoy that guy now.
– Please, someone get Ralph a new outfit.

Rating: 7.5/10
