Patrick Stewart keen on Jean-Luc Picard return for Quentin Tarantino’s Star Trek

December 10, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Earlier in the week came the rather surprising news that Quentin Tarantino had pitched an idea for a Star Trek movie to J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures, with the studio now said to be moving ahead at warp speed on the project.

As yet, we have no idea what Tarantino has in store for the project, or what time period / timeline he’ll be playing in, but should he decide to venture to the Next Generation era, then Patrick Stewart has revealed that he’d be more than happy to reprise the role of Jean-Luc Picard.

“People are always saying to me, ‘Will you be Jean-Luc Picard again?’ And I cannot think that would be possible, but there are ways in which something like that might come about,” said Stewart (via THR). “But one of my dreams is to work with Tarantino. I admire his work so much, and to be in a Tarantino film would give me so much satisfaction. So, if he is going to direct something to do with Star Trek and there was the possibility of dear old Jean-Luc showing up again and doing that for Mr Tarantino, I would embrace it. The one thing that characterizes all of his movies is that frame by frame, it always challenges, always demands your attention, always demands a very kind of open and generous response to what he does. I also love his sense of humor as a filmmaker. So yes, he would be my first choice.”

We will of course have to wait until we hear more information about Tarantino’s plans to see whether this is feasible, but if there’s a chance of a Picard return, I’m sure a lot of fans will be hoping that the filmmaker will make it so.
