After starting its North American theatrical run with the second biggest ever Thursday preview takings, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has carried that into its first full day at the box office, with the movie grossing $100.4 million on Friday, second only to Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $119 million.
Having been tracking a $200 million domestic opening weekend, analysts are now suggesting a $208 million to $214 million debut for The Last Jedi, which would put it ahead of The Avengers ($207.4 million) and potentially Jurassic World ($208.8 million) for the second best opening weekend after The Force Awakens ($247.9 million).
International numbers are still to come in for Friday, but The Last Jedi had grossed $60.8 million from 48 markets by close of play on Thursday. Worldwide opening estimates for the film put its weekend at around $425 million.
