Donald Glover on the Solo: A Star Wars Story reshoots

January 6, 2018 by Gary Collinson

We’re presumably only a short matter of time away from our first look at May’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, Disney and Lucasfilm’s second Star Wars Anthology movie, which – like 2016’s Rogue One – has had a bit of a troubled production.

As you’ll no doubt recall, original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired from the movie with just weeks of filming to go, with Ron Howard subsequently coming on board to finish the project. If rumours are to be believed, this resulted in around 80% of the movie being reshot, and actor Donald Glover – who is taking on the role of Lando Calrissian – has been chatting to Deadline about the director shake-up.

“It didn’t really,” said Glover, when asked how the production changed when Howard came on board, “I think we were never faced with anything like that and he did a good job of coming in and didn’t want us to change what we were doing at all. He wanted us to be comfortable with our vision.”

Glover went on to state that there were “not a ton” of reshoots for his particularly scenes as Lando, adding that: “It’s weird. I didn’t have a lot of stress on me. This is the first time in a long time, I was just acting. Most of the time, I have to write or do music. This time I woke up and got to be somebody else and the stress wasn’t there for me.”
