HBO and Apple are bidding for J.J. Abrams’ new sci-fi series

January 18, 2018 by Samuel Brace

J.J. Abrams’ new sci-fi TV drama is being shopped around, with both HBO and Apple currently bidding on the project.

Variety has confirmed the interest from both prestige TV titans HBO and from Apple who are working hard to secure their own place in the original programming space.

At present, details regarding the project are being kept tightly under wraps, a feature often present in much of Abrams’ work. However, the show will reportedly revolve around “a world’s battle against a monstrous, oppressive force.”

If the project makes it way to screens, it will become Abrams’ first TV writing job since Fringe back in 2008. Fringe was a sci-fi series about investigations into unexplained phenomena involving fringe science.

Abrams would also be executive producing the show, along with Ben Stephenson, who is the head of television for Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions.

Variety report that while HBO and Apple are the two top contenders to land the series, Warner Bros. is open to other bidders.
