The Big Sick’s Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon developing Little America for Apple

February 11, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Apple has tapped the husband-and-wife duo of Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, the Oscar-nominated screenwriters of The Big Sick and producers of Master of None and SMILF, to develop a new immigration-themed anthology series entitled Little America.

Written by Lee Eisenberg (SMILF), who will also serve as showrunner, Little America is based on true stories from Epic Magazine and is described as “a small, collective portrait of America’s immigrants — and thereby a portrait of America itself [which] will go beyond the headlines to look at the funny, romantic, heartfelt, inspiring and unexpected lives of immigrants in America, at a time when their stories are more relevant than ever.”

Little America is part of a growing slate of original content at Apple, which includes the Octavia Spencer-headlined drama Are You Sleeping, Steven Knight and Francis Lawrence’s See, a Damien Chazelle series, a Ronald D. Moore space drama, a morning TV show drama starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, and a reboot of Amazing Stories.
