Black Panther fans launch petition for Wakanda TV series

February 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

As Black Panther continues to tear up the box office following another record-breaking weekend, it seems that fans are clamouring for more of Marvel’s latest superhero franchise – so much so that one fan, Eric Hamilton, has launched a petition lobbying Marvel for a TV spinoff.

Posted on Change.org, the petition calls for a TV show chronicling the beginnings of Wakanda, the fictional African nation ruled by King T’Challa:

Telling the back story of Wakanda would be a game changer. How did Wakanda become the most technologically advanced country on Earth? From the technology to the artistry coupled with the rich African traditions, the fans demand more.

The Black Panther fanbase would love to see a Wakanda Series on Netflix. This series would expand the depth of the Marvel universe and we feel Marvel/Disney would enjoy creating and adapting these stories as much as we would love watching them. Do you agree? If so, then sign and share this petition.

Given how technologically advanced Wakanda is, such a series would likely require a hefty budget well beyond what we’ve seen from Marvel’s Netflix shows. But, with Black Panther doing huge business at the box office, and Disney looking to launch its own streaming service in the very near future, perhaps some kind of Black Panther spinoff isn’t beyond the realm of possibility?

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, King T’Challa returnsohome to the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to serve as his country’s new leader. However, T’Challa soon finds that he is challenged for the throne from factions within his own country. When two foes conspire to destroy Wakanda, the hero known as Black Panther must team up with C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and members of the Dora Milaje, Wakandan special forces, to prevent Wakanda from being dragged into a world war.

Black Panther sees Ryan Coogler (Creed) directing Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa alongside Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Sterling K. Brown as N’Jobu, John Kani as King T’Chaka and Nabiyah Be as Linda.
