Clint Eastwood may direct and star in The Mule

February 3, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Clint Eastwood could be set for a return to the big screen for the first time since 2012’s Trouble with the Curve, with The Tracking Board reporting that he’s circling The Mule, a new project from Warner Bros. and Imperative Entertainment.

The film would see Eastwood directing as well as starring as Leo Sharp, an award-winning horticulturist and decorated WWII veteran who was busted for transporting $3 million worth of cocaine through Michigan for Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel at the ripe old age of 90. He was subsequently sentenced to three years imprisonment when his lawyer argued that his dementia had sent him down the wrong path.

According to the outlet, the script has been penned by Nick Schenk (Gran Torino), with rewrites from Dave Holstein (Weeds), and is based on a New York Times Magazine article by Sam Dolnick. Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad) had previously been attached to direct.

Eastwood’s latest directorial effort, The 15:17 to Paris, is slated to open in theaters on February 9th and tells the true story of three American friends who confronted a terrorist on a train bound for Paris in 2015.
