A fifth Insidious movie is reportedly in the works after The Last Key becomes the series’ highest-grossing instalment

February 25, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Released last month to mixed reviews, Blumhouse and Universal Pictures’ Insidious: The Last Key has quietly proven to be a solid hit, grossing $165 million around the globe to make it the most successful instalment in the horror series.

With that in mind, it probably won’t come as much of a surprise to learn that plans for a fifth chapter are now in motion, with Bloody Disgusting reporting that the next film is moving forward, and is “unlikely” to be a prequel like the previous two instalments.

At this point, it’s unclear whether series writer Leigh Whannell will be back to pen the script, or if we’ll be seeing the return of Lin Shaye’s psychic Elise Rainier.

The first two Insidious movies were directed by James Wan, with Leigh Whannell helming the third chapter and Adam Robitel coming on board for the fourth. In total, the four movies have grossed $536.3 million worldwide.
