Mark Hamill tweets James Gunn about potential Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 role

February 26, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

Twitter has become an increasingly volatile place to spend time, but every so often it can do some good, and that might just be the case for both audiences and Mark Hamill, if his Twitter exchange with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is anything to go by.

When asked by a fan whether Gunn could find a role for Mark Hamill in the third instalment of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the refreshingly interactive director had the following to say:

I think @HamillHimself lives around the corner from me in Malibu so he can just come over and we can talk about it over a cup of coffee.

— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) February 26, 2018

This caught the eye of the former (?) Luke Skywalker, who responded to Gunn with his own Tweet.

I would be happy to do so, both as a good neighbor & an unemployed actor.
All the best, mh

— Mark Hamill (@HamillHimself) February 26, 2018

The narrative had a rather sweet conclusion, with Hamill’s grasp of how DM’s work belying his reputation as an omnipresent Twitter Jedi, but it seems as though a new friendship has been forged from opposite sides of the galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy has its DNA fused with geek nostalgia, via the use of its brilliant soundtracks, as well as casting of 80’s icons such as Kurt Russell. Heck, it even wrung the final few laughs out of a David Hasselhoff cameo in Vol. 2, so casting Mark Hamill should be a no-brainer. Although there would be a preference for a weighty role over stunt-casting cameo, it’d be nice to see Hamill have some fun after scowling his way through that milk-stained The Last Jedi beard. What do you guys think?
