Back in January it was announced that DeWanda Wise had signed on to Marvel Studios’ first female-fronted superhero blockbuster Captain Marvel in a mystery role.
However, Deadline is reporting that the actress has now left the project due to scheduling conflicts with the second season of her Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It. As yet, there’s no word on a replacement.
Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) and sees Brie Larson (Kong: Skull Island) taking on the role of Carol Danvers in an 1990s-set adventure which will pit the Marvel hero against the shape-shifting alien race the Skrulls.
UPDATE: Marvel hasn’t wasted any time in finding a replacement for Wise, with THR reporting that English actress Lashana Lynch (Still Star-Crossed) has now been cast as the still-unrevealed character.
