Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Alden Ehrenreich has a three-film deal as Han Solo

April 25, 2018 by Gary Collinson

In a month’s time, Star Wars will return to the big screen as Disney and Lucasfilm unleash their second Anthology spinoff movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, which explores the backstory to everyone’s favourite smuggler Han Solo.

Alden Ehrenreich is stepping into Harrison Ford’s shoes as a young version of the future Rebel hero, and during an interview with THR, the actor has revealed that he actually has a three-film contract with Lucasfilm: “I don’t know if that’s officially, uh, public. But — yeah.”

It’s worth noting that just because he has a three-film deal, it doesn’t necessarily mean Lucasfilm has any plans for three Han Solo movies. Multi-film deals are typically standard, and it also opens up the possibility for him to appear in other Anthology tales – the rumoured Boba Fett and Jabba the Hutt movies, for example.

Of course, if Solo proves to be a big hit, there’s still going to be plenty of time to explore between this film and A New Hope…

The article itself is well worth a read, with Ehrenreich also speaking about the departure of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, denying the rumours that he was responsible for their firing, and that an acting coach was brought in to try and “salvage” his performance as Han.

A new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story features Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as the famous smuggler, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Tobias Beckett, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) as L3-37, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Qi’Ra, Thandie Newton (Westworld) as Val, Ian Kenny (Sing Street) as Rebolt, Harley Durst (Wonder Woman) as Moloch, Jon Favreau (Spider-Man: Homecoming) as Rio Durant, Tien Hoang (Now You See Me 2) as Moloch’s henchman, Paul Bettany (Avengers: Infinity War) as Dryden Vos and Warwick Davis (Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
