Zachary Quinto says there are three competing scripts for next Star Trek movie

April 2, 2018 by Gary Collinson

A few days ago actor and Star Trek Beyond co-writer Simon Pegg revealed that the script for Star Trek 4 had been completed before Quentin Tarantino pitched his own idea for an R-rated instalment in the sci-fi franchise.

Well, it seems those aren’t the only two potential projects, as Zachary Quinto has revealed that Paramount also has another team of writers working on a third competing script.

“First of all, I think there’s a couple of scripts,! Quinto tells Entertainment Tonight. “Because there was a script being written before Quentin Tarantino came up with his idea for a potential film. And so I think they are kind of developing more than one. So I don’t know what is going to happen. Quentin is off doing another movie. So, I feel like we are in a state of anticipation. All of us are really excited about the idea of working with Quentin on a Trek film, but I know Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, who wrote the last film, are writing a script and there are another set of writers writing a script. So I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

As yet, there’s been no word as to whether Tarantino’s project would feature the NuTrek cast, but we do know that the original Paramount script by would have seen Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as George Kick from the 2009 movie.

Tarantino is currently occupied with his new film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is set for release in August 2019. So, if Paramount has two other scripts ready to go, it is possible that the studio could decide to move forward with one of those projects in the meantime.
