Exclusive Interview – Coralie Fargeat and Matilda Lutz on Revenge

May 11, 2018 by Freda Cooper

For writer/director Coralie Fargeat, her debut feature Revenge has been a baptism of blood.  Getting funding for a genre movie in France is never easy and, although the project received plenty of attention simply because there was a woman director at the helm, securing the money wasn’t straightforward.

Nonetheless, it’s made it to UK screens, a blood-soaked tale of a fun-loving woman who is whisked away by her boyfriend for a romantic weekend in the desert, but finds they’re unexpectedly joined by a couple of his hunting buddies.  Things go from bad to worse.  She suffers a horrific attack, but survives, turning out to be far more resourceful than the men could ever have imagined as she hunts them all down to take her revenge.

Talking to Flickering Myth’s Freda Cooper, Fargeat and Matilda Lutz, who plays the lead, talk about the challenges that went with shooting the film in the Moroccan desert.  Lutz goes into more detail about the practicalities of dealing with all that artificial blood.  The set became so sticky, the actors found themselves sticking to the walls …..

Revenge is released on 11th May.  Read our review of the film here.
