Rumoured plot and character details for the Masters of the Universe movie revealed

May 7, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Sony’s Masters of the Universe movie finally looks like it could be set to escape development hell, with Aaron Nee and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) signing on to direct the big screen reboot of the classic Mattel toy line last month ahead of a planned release in December 2019.

Thanks to That Hashtag Show, we now have some alleged plot details, as well as details on which classic characters are set to join He-Man in the movie – including of course Skeletor, who is being reimagined as Adam’s brother. According to the site:

“King Randor will be presented as the great warrior-king of Eternia, a descendant of the Grayskulls, and the father of two sons: Adam and Keldor! As the film begins, Keldor is the chosen heir to the throne and his brother, Adam, is young, unfit and a bit of a black sheep.

“Where Adam’s relationship with his father is strained, Keldor is the epitome of a perfect son, beloved by his father…until the fate of Eternia is put on the line. With his kingdom on the line, Randor puts his people first, betraying Keldor, inciting the series of events that leads to him becoming the iconic Skeletor!”

Following Skeletor’s rise, Adam will then assemble a group of warriors to battle his brother, including: Duncan/Man-at-Arms, the king’s right-hand man and weaponeer; Teela, Duncan’s daughter, Captain of the Royal Guard, and Adam’s love interest; Zodak, the King’s Minister of Technology and a mentor to Adam; and Orko, who has been reimagined as “a small man whose self-doubt holds him back from being a reasonably mediocre wizard.”

Stratos will also feature, ruling over the Sky Guards of the Iron Gate Prison where Skeletor and his gang find themselves imprisoned at one point. Meanwhile, Skeletor will be joined by Evil-Lyn, the femme-fatale of the movie and a powerful and intelligent witch; Beast Man, who is depicted as a spy and shape-shifter who has the ability to transform into any animal; and Trap Jaw, who will remain a cyborg, although further details are scarce.

Filming on Masters of the Universe was originally intended to get underway in April before David S. Goyer exited the director’s chair due to scheduling conflicts. As yet, there’s no word on a new start date, but Sony will need to get the ball rolling soon if it is to keep to its scheduled December 2019 release date.
