During this past weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con International, we got our very first trailer for the second season of CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, as well as the news that Rebecca Romijn (X-Men) has been cast as Number One, second-in-command of the U.S.S. Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount).
That’s not all though, as it was also confirmed that the iconic Mr. Spock will be making his Discovery debut in season two, and showrunner Alex Kurtzman has revealed to Variety that not only are they casting for the role, but they have already found an actor to don the pointy ears.
“We are, we are casting a new Spock. It’s not just a possibility, its been done. Everybody assumes that just because Spock is all about logic, that there is no emotion in there and that’s entirely untrue. So, finding an actor who can convey what we know to be very Vulcan, but also reveal so much emotion in the eyes and in the small gestures, so you understand there’s just a tornado of things happening under the surface is critical. So you need an actor who can do both of those things at the same time, which is very challenging.”

With filming on season two of Star Trek: Discovery well underway, we shouldn’t have too long of a wait to find out who’ll be stepping in to Leonard Nimoy’s (and Zachary Quinto’s) shoes.
Star Trek: Discovery season two is set to premiere on December 30th on CBS All Access in the United States and on Netflix internationally.
