Qi’ra didn’t know that Maul used to be a Sith Lord, says Solo: A Star Wars Story novel author

August 28, 2018 by Samuel Brace

According to the author of the Solo: A Star Wars Story novelisation, Qi’ra wasn’t aware that Darth Maul used to be a Sith.

Solo: A Star Wars Story had plenty of fun surprises and reveals for fans of the franchise but none were perhaps as big as Darth Maul’s cameo towards the end of the movie.

It was revealed that Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke) and Dryden Vos were working for the former Sith Lord but Mur Lafferty, the author of the film’s novelisation, has revealed that Qi’ra probably didn’t know about her superior’s past. Speaking to StarWars.com, Lafferty said:

“I don’t think she would have known who he was. They sort of implied that Dryden was beholden to someone a lot more powerful than he was. And so she knew that whoever it was scared him, but she didn’t know that the guy used to be a Sith Lord. She didn’t know who he was. She just knew that that button would call Dryden Vos’ boss.”

This revelation certainly changes the situation slightly and makes one feel a certain sense of sympathy for Qi’ra, who it seems, had no idea who she was doing business with.

Did you enjoy Maul’s brief appearance in the film? And are you hoping for another appearance? Let us know in the comments below…
