Jon Snow’s direwolf Ghost will be returning for the final season of Game of Thrones

October 2, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Ghost, Jon Snow’s direwolf, will be returning for Game of Throne’s final ever season.

One of the most beloved Game of Thrones characters isn’t even a human, with many fans always wanting to see more of Ghost, Jon Snow’s intimidating direwolf. Luckily, Ghost will be returning for the show’s final ever season.

Speaking to Huffington Post, VFX supervisor Joe Bauer said Ghost will definitely appear and will have “a fair amount of screen time.”

Sometimes it seems like the direwovles could be used more on screen but there are specific reasons why this doesn’t happen. Explaining the difficulties, Bauer said:

“The direwolves are tough because you don’t want to get them wrong, so we end up always shooting real wolves and doing a scaling trick with them, but the real wolves only behave in certain ways.”

It’s probably smart not to use the creatures too much when there is significant VFX involved, as nothing breaks the fiction of entertainment more than less than perfect CGI. And when there are real wolves involved as a starting point, it can’t exactly make things easy on set.

Are you looking forward to seeing Ghost one last time?
