Rumour: Marvel Studios has a script for a Dark Avengers movie

October 7, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The Avengers franchise as we know it looks set to come to an end next year with the release of the as-yet-untitled fourth movie, but given the enormous brand value of the name, one would have to assume that the Infinity War follow-up won’t be the last Marvel movie we get with Avengers in the title.

There are of course several routes that Marvel could take, such as New Avengers and Young Avengers, but if a rumour from That Hashtag Show is to be believed, Marvel may also be looking at Dark Avengers as a possiblity, with the site reporting that the studio already has a completed script.

Created by Brian Michael Bendis, Dark Avengers launched as a title back in 2009 and revolves around Norman Osborn’s team of government-sanctioned “heroes” – or more specifically, supervillains disguised as heroes, including Osborn as the Iron Patriot, Bullseye as Hawkeye, Mac Gargan as Spider-Man, Daken as Wolverine and Moonstone as Captain Marvel.

The site goes on to report that it also believes Marvel Studios has made an effort to gain access to Norman Osborn, who Sony was apparently planning to use in the now shelved Silver & Black film, with that potentially being the reason why Sony opted to pull the Spider-Man spinoff.

Osborn does have an enormous amount of backstory in the comics before we find him as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. (which he rebrands as H.A.M.M.E.R.), so it would be interesting to see how Marvel handles all of that if the studio is to jump straight in to Dark Avengers with him as the central character. Personally, I’d like to see Marvel Studios’ take on the Green Goblin first.

What are your thoughts on this rumour? Would you like to see a Dark Avengers movie with Norman Osborn? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
