DC’s Birds of Prey gets a new title, and it’s really long

November 21, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Last month, cinematographer Matthew Libatique (Venom) revealed that he’d signed on to the upcoming Harley Quinn-led DC girl gang movie Birds of Prey, suggesting that the film was “probably” going to have a different title.

Well, it turns out that is indeed the case, as Margot Robbie has taken to Instagram to share a copy of the script, complete with the rather long title Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

And, just in case you thought that may simply have been Robbie doodling on the script, the official Warner Bros. Twitter account then confirmed the new title:

Based on the title (and the fact that Jared Leto’s Joker isn’t expected to appear in the film), it seems safe to assume that Harley’s arc will see her moving on from abusive relationship with the Clown Prince of Crime, and likely earning some redemption for her criminal past as she teams up with the Birds of Prey to help protect young Cassandra Cain from the crime lord Black Mask.

Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) is directing Birds of Prey from a script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee) with Margot Robbie reprising her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo) as The Huntress, Jurnee Smolett-Bell (Underground) as Black Canary, Rosie Perez (Fearless) as Renee Montoya, Elle Jay Basco (Grey’s Anatomy) as Cassandra Cain and Ewan McGregor (Christopher Robin) as Black Mask. It is set for release on February 7th 2020.
