Anne Hathaway wanted for Warner Bros.’ Sesame Street movie

December 5, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

Anne Hathaway has proven herself to be one of the most versatile performers working in film today. Tackling blockbusters such as The Dark Knight Rises and Ocean’s 8, indie gems like Rachel Getting Married, winning an Academy Award for Les Misérables, all after earning her stripes in comedy with The Princess Diaries. Now Collider are reporting that she’s about to take on something larger than all of those movies put together: Big Bird in the upcoming Sesame Street movie.

It was revealed back in October that Portlandia c0-creator Jonathan Krisel would be orchestrating the Muppet mayhem, which is believed to be a musical, and that it would be produced by Stranger Things and Night at the Museum‘s Shawn Levy.

This report suggests that Hathaway could be set to play a character named Sally, which is the name of a young girl who appeared on the first episode of Sesame Street way back in 1969, but that there are no further plot details.

This wont be the first time that the Hathaway has collaborated with the Sesame Street gang. She appeared on the 2007 Christmas special Elmo’s Christmas Countdown, singing ‘I Want a Snuffy for Christmas’, which you can enjoy below.

Sesame Street premiered back in 1969 and recently moved from PBS to HBO, where it continues to air. The show blends live-action, animation and puppetry, and is home to characters such as Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster and Elmo. It has previously spawned two feature films in 1985’s Sesame Street Presents Follow That Bird and 1999’s Elmo in Grouchland.
