Having finally won an Oscar for his work with Denis Villeneuve on last year’s Blade Runner 2049, legendary filmmaker Roger Deakins is set to set out Villeneuve’s next film(s), the two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune.
According to a report at Variety, Dune will see Villeneueve – who has worked with Deakins on Prisoners, Sicario and the Blade Runner sequel – teaming with cinematographer Greig Fraser, whose credits include Zero Dark Thirty, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the upcoming Vice and The Mandalorian.
And, if you were hoping that might open up the door for a return to the Bond franchise for Deakins after his work on Skyfall, we’re afraid not as new Bond 25 director Cary Fukunaga has reportedly hired Oscar-winner Linus Sandgren (La La Land, First Man) to shoot the next 007 adventure.
As for Deakins, he’s recently completed shooting The Goldfinch for director John Crowley, and is attached to reunite with his Skyfall director Sam Mendes on the World War I drama 1917.
