Dave Bautista doesn’t care about Fast & Furious or Bumblebee, says “I want good roles”

February 26, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Dave Bautista has discussed the kind of career he wants to have as an actor, focusing more on interesting roles than being in blockbuster movies.

Dave Bautista shares something in common with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in the fact that both came from WWE before becoming successful movie actors. Johnson has become a massive star on film but Bautista doesn’t want the same type of career as his former colleague.

Speaking to the Tampa Bay Times, Bautista talked about going after interesting roles rather than just blockbuster movies: “Rock was, in a way, a movie star before he was even a movie star. There is something about him that’s really special. I’d never take that away from him. Would I consider him a great actor? Fuck no. I want good roles. I don’t care about Fast and Furious or Bumblebee. … That’s not the kind of stardom I want. … I want to be in Dune. I want to work with Denis Villeneuve. I want to work with Sam Mendes and Jodie Foster. I want to work with Academy Award winners. I’m proud to be a character actor. I want that respect and credibility and education.”

Bautista is certainly becoming a respected force within the movie industry, delighting fans with his comic timing in films like The Guardians of the Galaxy and his depth as a performer in Blade Runner 2049. And, as the actor mentioned, he will also now feature in the upcoming Dune remake.
