No guarantee that Danai Gurira will return as Michonne for The Walking Dead season 10

February 6, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Danai Gurira, the actress who plays Michonne on The Walking Dead, might not return for season 10.

This week, AMC’s zombie series was renewed for season 10 and will begin this October. The announcement came via an online video which you can see here.

However, there is no guarantee that one of the show’s main stars Danai Gurira will be returning as there seem to be some contract disputes. The actress’ contract expired after season nine and THR now reports the following:

“Danai Gurira, meanwhile, was in prolonged negotiations with AMC that were further complicated by her status as a breakout actress with hits under her belt including Black Panther. It’s unclear if she has signed a new deal to return. AMC did not immediately respond to The Hollywood Reporter’s request for comment about Gurira’s status for Season 10.”

So, while the actress and her character Michonne might indeed return for season 10, it seems like it isn’t a sure thing quite yet. What do you make of this news? Would you mind if season nine was Michonne’s last?

The second half of The Walking Dead season nine finds our groups of survivors, both old and new, continuing to deal with the impact of events that took place during the six years that have passed. Since the disappearance of Rick, many of these characters have become strangers to each other, and in some ways, strangers to themselves. What they do know is that they are in undeniable danger. They will soon realise the world just beyond does not operate as they thought. The group’s rules and ways of survival no longer guarantee their safety. A whole new threat has crossed their paths, and they soon discover it’s unlike any threat they have encountered or endured before. The group will start to question what they think they see. What may appear to be normal in this post-apocalyptic world could actually be more disturbing and terrifying than when the apocalypse first broke out. All that is certain is the stakes are high and numerous.

The Walking Dead season 9 airs on Sundays in the US and on Mondays in the UK.
