War Child UK and its US partner Children in Conflict, charities dedicated to helping children in war torn areas, have revealed that they raised $380,000 through their Armistice gaming project in 2018. We all love to play war games, mowing down the enemies as they charge at us, but games seldom cover the tragedies and hardships caused by war, however, thanks to this project over $750,000 has been raised since its inception in 2016, helping children throughout the world gain the life that our children enjoy.
Over 20 gaming companies, including Bandai Namco, Devolver Digital and Wargaming have contributed to the project so that throughout November gamers had the chance to participate in peaceful gameplay through exclusive content, sales on Steam, Amazon App Store & Google Play and live streams. The exclusive content delivered by developers included the themed DLC content for World War I title, 11-11: Memories Retold and the Peace Stand in Prison Architect.
Wayne Emanuel, Head of Gaming Partnerships, War Child UK said, “The gaming sector deserves huge recognition for the backing it has given and the funds it has raised so far on our journey. We intend to continue growing Armistice and working with as many conflict-themed games as possible to raise awareness and support children who have felt the effects of war. With such engagement and a strong sense of community from gamers and willingness to support from developers, publishers and platforms, there is an enormous opportunity to make gaming a platform for positive change.”
War Child UK will also be making an appearance at the Re-Play event in April, so look out for them there.
