Game of Thrones showrunners reveal the Night King’s destructive goals

March 27, 2019 by Samuel Brace

We know the Night King is bad news but now the creators of Game of Thrones have now revealed what it is he is trying to achieve and why.

The final season of Game of Thrones is nearly upon us (coming April 14) and one thing many fans are looking forward to most is to see just what the Night King will do to Westeros now that he has crossed the wall.

The Night King has been a scary presence for many seasons know and his creation at the hands of the Children of the Forest – in order to kill the First Men – has also been revealed. But is he evil? What are his plans? Well, Game of Thrones showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, spoke about this to EW:

“I don’t think of him as evil, I think of him as Death. And that’s what he wants — for all of us. It’s why he was created and that’s what he’s after,” Benioff said.

“It was almost logical as you went back in time, as you create the prehistory for all this,” Weiss added. “We’ve seen what the White Walkers do, we’ve seen how they perpetuate themselves and created the wights. If you’re going backwards, well, they made these things … so what made them? We always liked the implication that they weren’t some kind of cosmic evil that had been around since the beginning of time but that the White Walkers had a history — that something that seems legendary and mythological and permanent wasn’t. They had a historical cause that was comprehensible like the way the wars on screen we’re seeing unfold are comprehensible. They’re the result of people, or beings, with motivations we can understand.”

It’s certainly going to be fun to see the battle for Westeros and just how the various human heroes and villains join forces to stop the Night King’s invasion.
