Mark Hamill gets honest about the emotional fallout from Han Solo’s Star Wars death

March 6, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Mark Hamill has commented on the emotional impact of Han Solo’s death in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars has had many shocking moments over the decades. From Obi-Wan’s death to Vader’s fatherly revelation to Luke. Another one of these surprising scenes was when Kylo Ren murdered his father Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Hardly anyone was prepared for the beloved Harrison Ford character to mee his end at that point in the new trilogy and even Mark Hamill was shocked by what happened. Speaking to Den of Geek, Hamill opened up about his strong reaction to the choice made to kill Han:

“I just thought, Luke’s never going to see his best friend again. You look at it in a self-centered way. I said that it was a big mistake that those three people would never reunite in any way. I guess I was wrong, because nobody seems to care! I have to stipulate that I care, but it didn’t really seem to affect the larger audience. Luke, Han, and Leia [Carrie Fisher] will never be together again, and I’ll probably never get to work with Harrison again.”

While Hamill seems to be mostly coming at it from an actors point of view, who would have loved nothing more than to work with his old friend Harrison Ford again, there is no question that Han’s death is one of the most memorable and emotionally charged moments in this new trilogy of films so far. However, as Hamill notes, it also meant we never got to see a reunion between the three main heroes of the Original Trilogy…
