Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana comment on James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 return

April 3, 2019 by Samuel Brace

There were a lot of very happy people when Disney announced that James Gunn had been re-hired to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. None more so, however, than cast members such as Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana.

Saldana couldn’t be happier about the news and spoke recently to ET about her thoughts on the decision, praising Disney in the process: “I’m proud of him. I’m happy that he’s coming back. I’m so proud of Disney, actually, that all the leaders right now behind that big corporation decided to lead by example, and spreading the word and the message of redemption is important.”

Bautista was also delighted by the news, especially considering he had threatened to not be in the movie if Gunn wasn’t directing. Bautista has even revealed to Variety that despite his contractual obligations, Marvel might have let him walk if Gunn hadn’t come back:

“I am contractually obligated [to do the third movie], but I think that Marvel and Disney –– if I had really stood my ground and said, ‘I don’t want to do this without James’ –– I think that they are decent enough that they would’ve let me out of my contract. I wanted to bring it home. These guys are like family to me and I wanted to be involved in the third one. I wanted to use James’ script because it’s a beautiful script. Moving forward without James was a real personal issue with me.”

Well, that’s a hypothetical we will now never have to worry about at least. Fans can just look forward to seeing what cast and crew will cook up for the next installment when it finally releases.
