Masters of the Universe movie gets new March 2021 release date

May 19, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Last month, Sony Pictures announced that it had pushed back the December 2019 release date for its long-planned Masters of the Universe movie to “some time in 2020”, and now comes word that we’ll actually have to wait a little longer than that.

Variety is reporting that the studio has set an official release date of March 5th 2021 for the movie, which is to be directed by Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) from a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man).

Based upon the classic 80s toy line and cartoon series, Masters of the Universe will see Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) taking on the role of Adam, prince of Eternia and alter-ego of He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe.

Sony first picked up the rights to Masters of the Universe a decade ago, with the project passing through the hands of a number of directors since then, including John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda), Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), McG (Charlie’s Angels) and David S. Goyer (Blade: Trinity).

Whether this new release date means the project is finally set to escape development hell under the Nee brothers, we shall see…
