The CW announces Batwoman series order with teaser promo

May 8, 2019 by Ricky Church

After appearing in The CW’s latest annual Arrowverse crossover and receiving a green light for her own pilot, audiences will soon be seeing a lot more of Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane as the network has officially given Batwoman a series order for the 2019 – 2020 season.

Batwoman made her appearance in ‘Elseworlds’ crossover between Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl this past December. Since even before her introduction, the talk surrounding her own potential series was pretty positive. This will mark the fourth spin-off of Arrow after Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Not much is known about the pilot episode except that it will take place before the ‘Elseworlds’ crossover and directed by Marcos Siega (The Vampire Diaries).

Starring alongside Rose in the series will be Dougary Scott (Mission: Impossible 2) as Kate’s father Jacob Kane, Elizabeth Anweis (Twin Peaks) as her step-mother Catherine Hamilton-Kane, Meagan Tandy (Teen Wolf) as love interest Sophie Moore, Nicole Kang (You) as Kate’s step-sister Mary Hamilton, Camrus Johnson (Luke Cage) as Luke Fox, a.k.a. Batwing, and Rachel Skarsten (Lost Girl) as Alice, the leader of the villainous Wonderland Gang.

Batwoman‘s arrival comes just as Arrow is ending its run with a shortened eighth and final season next fall. It is unknown if Batwoman will take part in the CW’s next crossover, which was revealed to be Crisis on Infinite Earths. This crossover is based on the 80s event series of the same name that saw heroes from across the multiverse come together to fight a powerful multiversal threat.

While fans will be journeying to Gotham City once again in Batwoman, they should not expect to see Batman appear in the series as the ‘Elseworlds’ crossover established he has been absent from Gotham for several years. Executive Producer Sarah Schechter even confirmed last month that Batman “remains off-limits for the foreseeable future”.
