Marvel’s Kevin Feige says Spider-Man and Venom crossover movie likely, but for Sony to decide

June 20, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, has said that a movie with both Spider-Man and Venom is likely but that it’s up to Sony.

When news broke that there would be a Venom movie without Spider-Man, many fans were confused. Surely you can’t have one without the other? Well, while the Venom movie didn’t feature his arch foe, there could be hope for a future collision.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has told Cinema Blend that it could happen but it would be up to Sony due to them owning the rights both characters: “I think probably it’s up to Sony. Sony has both those characters and has Venom in their world. I don’t know what their plans are for another Venom or if they’re doing that. But it seems likely at some point.”

In the build up to the release of Venom, Feige stressed on numerous occasions that the solo movie had no connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although Sony was reportedly keen on keeping the door open for a potential future crossover with the MCU juggernaut. Meanwhile, Venom writer Jeff Pinkner teased earlier this year that “it is not impossible that in a future/upcoming Venom movie, Spider-Man will play a significant role.”

With Marvel and Sony’s original Spidey deal believed to end with either Far From Home or a third Spider-Man movie, the possibility remains that Sony could opt against any potential extension and look to introduce the web-slinger into its fledgling Marvel universe (which by that point will have seen the release of the Jared Leto-headlined Morbius the Living Vampire and the Venom sequel).
