Harry Styles in talks to play Prince Eric in Disney’s The Little Mermaid

August 1, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Having found their Ariel earlier this month in R&B star Halle Bailey, it seems that Disney and director Rob Marshall are looking to add some further musical talent to the cast of The Little Mermaid.

According to Entertainment Weekly, former One Direction singer Harry Styles is in talks for the male lead in the movie, the character of Prince Eric, a human who prompts Ariel to strike a bargain with the sea witch Ursula, giving up her voice in order to walk on land and fall in love.

While Prince Eric doesn’t sing in the animated movie, the potential casting of Harry Styles seems to indicate that he will do so in the remake, for which Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda are working on new songs to accompany the original score.

Along with Bailey, The Little Mermaid is also set to feature Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) as Ursula, Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) as Scuttle, and Jacob Tremblay (The Predator) as Flounder.
