Guillermo del Toro looks to enlist star-studded cast for Nightmare Alley

August 3, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that Cate Blanchett is in talks to join Bradley Cooper in the cast of Nightmare Alley, the next movie from The Shape of Water director Guillermo del Toro.

Based on the William Lindsay Gresham novel of the same name, which was previously adapted for the big screen back in 1947, Nightmare Alley follows an ambitious conman (Cooper) who teams up with a corrupt female ‘psychic’ to con people with their mentalist act as part of a travelling carnival.

Meanwhile, along with Blanchett, Collider is reporting that del Toro is looking to enlist a rather impressive ensemble which includes Rooney Mara (Carol), Toni Collette (Hereditary), Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Mark Povinelli (Water for Elephants) and Richard Jenkins (The Shape of Water).

Nightmare Alley has been scripted by del Toro and Kim Morgan (The Forbidden Room) and is slated to begin shooting early in 2020.
