R.I.P. Robert Forster (1941 – 2019)

October 12, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Oscar-nominated American actor Robert Forster has passed away aged 78 after losing a battle with brain cancer.

Forster began his career on stage in the 1960s before being cast by John Huston in 1967’s Reflections in a Golden Eye alongside Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor.

He followed this up in 1969 with Medium Cool before heading to the small screen to star in NBC’s Banyon – a role that would inspire Quentin Tarantino to cast Forster in 1997’s Jackie Brown, with the filmmaker specifically creating the role with Forster in mind.

Prior to Jackie Brown, which saw him nominated for the Best Supporting Actor role, Forster had found himself starring in a number of B-movies such as Alligator and The Delta Force; however, his turn in Tarantino’s film led to a career resurgence and roles in the likes of Psycho (1998), Mulholland Drive, The Descendants, Olympus Has Fallen and Damsel to name but a few.

Forster also appeared in a host of TV shows including Heroes, Last Man Standing, Twin Peaks and Breaking Bad, with the actor reprising his role in the latter for the Netflix sequel feature El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, released just yesterday.
